Kris Marubayashi

Kris Marubayashi is a Sacramento ceramic artist who makes both sculptural work and vessels such as covered bowls. Marubayashi frames the practice around five elements, earth, water, air, fire and time, which together produce the textures, colors, weights and shapes in each piece, and sees clay as a material of endless combinations and challenges.

"Working with clay is like life," the artist writes, and the statement encourages pursuing your passions, staying in tune with your surroundings and appreciating the small things. The portfolio ranges from sculpture groups to pieces like "white dune," and the studio opens to visitors during Sac Open Studios.
