About

Kathleen S. Farros is a Sacramento sculptor whose work explores the human condition and spirit through idioms, surreal juxtapositions, and flora and fauna, guided by humor and emotion. "Concepts drive my art," she writes, whether she is working in 3-D with ceramics and assemblage or in 2-D with acrylics and printmaking. Fish recur as symbols of transformation and rebirth, alongside corn, asparagus and artichokes, in pieces like "Swimming Up the Bean Stalk" and "The Tin Man Grows His Own Heart."

Farros cites the 1970s Funk artists at UC Davis as an influence; she studied there with Robert Arneson and later worked with mentor David Gilhooly. She earned a master's at CSU Sacramento in fine art and art education, and has worked as an educator and administrator teaching children and adults. She takes commissions and teaches classes.
