Matt Zidar

Matt Zidar paints original oils in a bold, fauvist style, observing the world with what he calls "curiosity, reverence, and feeling." His subjects include florals and botanicals, birds such as sandhill cranes, landscapes and cityscapes, winter scenes and dance, built on contrasts of warm and cool, stillness and motion, and realism and interpretation.

He came to painting later in life after a career as a water scientist and planner. "Art is my means to observe, feel beauty, exist in joy," he says, and he encourages others to reconnect with their creative side and support local arts. One of his paintings received an Honorable Mention in the 2026 "Bold Expressions" show at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Originals, prints and giclee canvases are available through his site.
