Monica Engebretson

Monica Engebretson is a Carmichael ceramic artist who works under the name Other Voices Ceramics. She "creates ceramic sculptures and functional pieces made by ceramic technique called handbuilding," and her subject is animals: the essential role they play in nature and the harm human activity can do to them. Some pieces carry quotes meant to make the viewer stop and think about how we treat animals.

She grew up in Nevada City and studied Wildlife at Humboldt State, with a minor in Environmental Ethics. She has spent more than twenty years working in nonprofit animal protection, and that work feeds directly into what she makes in clay.
