About

Diana Ormanzhi is a Sacramento oil painter who began teaching herself to paint in 2015 and went on to earn an associate degree in art from American River College and a gallery management certificate. She describes her style as "imaginative realism," pairing realistic painting with surreal, dreamlike subjects.

After a 2019 fire destroyed her family's home, studio and many artworks, she turned the loss into momentum: new solo and group shows, her first large-scale mural for Wide Open Walls in 2020, and a studio at ARTHOUSE on R, where she hosts monthly open studios and curates exhibitions. Her latest series, Sentient Shrooms, gives mushrooms personalities and stories, following earlier work on the balance between people and the rest of nature.

Highlights

  • Solo show Illusion of Sanctuary, Kaneko Gallery (2024)
  • Wide Open Walls mural (2020)
  • Group shows at Modern Eden Gallery and Helvella Gallery
