About
John Nichols is a lifelong West Sacramento painter working in oil and acrylic. Encouraged by a high school art teacher and his family, he went on to study at Sacramento City College in the 1970s. He paints still lifes, ocean scenes and Northern California landscapes, often en plein air, aiming to give each painting "a 'sense of place'."
He serves on the board and show committee of the Sacramento Fine Arts Center, chaired its 2019 Animal House International Show and judged the 2022 edition. His awards include Best of Show at the Yolo County Fair, first place in oil at the Placer Artist League's 2017 Fine Art Competition, and several Sacramento Fine Arts Center honors, and he has shown at Blue Wing Gallery in Woodland, Tim Collom Gallery and Gallery 2110.
