About

Joseph Bellacera is a West Sacramento painter, sculptor and public artist whose work is built around space, light and pattern. He draws on landscape at every scale, from aerial views of farmland to crystal formations and webs, and describes his current series as "mapping energy fields," combining fields of light and color with topographic patterns in layered oils, acrylics and digital elements. He names J.M.W. Turner, Wassily Kandinsky and James Turrell as key influences.

Born and raised in Northern California, Bellacera studied at Massachusetts College of Art, earned a BA and MA from Humboldt State University and an MFA from UC Santa Barbara. His solo shows include "The Matter of Light" at the Pence Gallery in Davis and "In and Out of Phase: The Typography of Light" at ViewPoint Gallery in Sacramento, and his public commissions range from the Davis Public Library and the Arthur F. Turner Community Library in West Sacramento to the Yolo County Board of Supervisors' Chambers. He takes commissions.
