About
Karen Cahill is a Roseville-based oil painter known for portraits and still lifes. She works in oils on rigid, smooth panels, combining glazing with heavy impasto, and describes her goal as bringing a painting close to realism while keeping a "painterly effect." She holds a BFA in Art and a BA in English from St. Mary's College in Moraga, and taught children and adults for many years before painting full time.
Her current series, The Weight of Freedoms, takes on ideas like liberty, free speech, justice, truth and artistic expression in classical technique. She is an exhibiting member of OPA, a Signature Artist with NOAPS, and was a featured artist at Panache Gallery in Mendocino for more than a decade. She also teaches portrait painting classes, including "Paint Their Story Not Just Their Face."
