Elk Grove painter of landscapes in a French Impressionist style
About
Velma Davidson is an Elk Grove painter who works in a French Impressionist style, using loose brushwork and bright color to catch the shifting light of a landscape. She traces her interest in art to the rolling hills of southeastern Indiana, where she grew up near the Ohio River, and studied painting, sculpture and art history in high school and college.
In California she continued painting under Susan Sarback and Rhonda Egan. Her subjects include the American River, the Sierra Nevada, the Bodega Headlands and her home state of Indiana. She takes part in the Yolo Art and Ag Project and works from photographs when she can't finish a piece on location.
