About

Bruce Hancock paints and draws portraits, figurative work, landscapes and still lifes, mostly in oil. A fourth-generation Californian whose family came during the Gold Rush, he often draws on the history of California and the American West, aiming to convey the timelessness of the land and the strength of individuals.

He drew a lot as a child and showed watercolors as a young adult, then returned to art around age 60 after about 35 years away. Largely self-taught, he has studied with painters including Terry Miura, Steve Huston, Kathleen Dunphy and Qiang Huang, and opens his work at Terry Miura Studio in Rancho Cordova during Open Studios. Available paintings are on his website.
