Karen Hamilton
Nature, Buddhist themes and collage-driven paintings full of happy accidents.
About
Karen Hamilton is a Sacramento artist who has painted and drawn since childhood, working in drawing, watercolor, oil and mixed media. Most of her work centers on nature, including landscapes, animals, trees and flowers, and pieces like "Dancing For Life (Whooping Cranes)" and "A Winter's Bloom" show that range.
Hamilton trained in Minnesota, Oregon and at the San Francisco Art Institute. Travel and a long interest in Zen Buddhism have lately pulled her toward Asian and Buddhist themes, as in her "Kuan-Yin of the Orchids." She has also started adding collaged materials to her paint, which she says invites more studio "accidents" and leads to looser, more abstract paintings.
