Good Neighbor
Urban Roots' casual R Street spot at the Ice Blocks, with wood-fired pizzas and steaks, a half-pound burger and three patios.
About Good Neighbor
Good Neighbor is the Urban Roots Hospitality team's counter-service restaurant at the Ice Blocks on R Street, in the space that used to be Beast + Bounty. The idea is a relaxed neighborhood hangout with familiar food done carefully, Urban Roots beer on tap and a weekday happy hour from 3 to 5 PM.
A wood-fired oven drives much of the menu: pizzas like a fennel sausage pie with Calabrian chili or a Yukon gold potato pie with mortadella, plus wood-grilled hanger steak frites. There is also a half-pound Good Burger with tallow fries, Grandma's meatballs, lobster bisque, hand-cut pasta Bolognese and Mary's half-chicken, and a Sunday brunch. Seating spreads across the dining room, an R Street patio, a 17th Street patio and an inner courtyard shared with Philz Coffee, all of which can be booked for private events.
